The Heart Of Leadership Is Power

September 24, 2013 2 Comments

Influence is an important concept. Whenever I hear the word influence, I immediately think power.

We cannot lead without power. The process of leadership simply does not work without the exercise of power. You must use some type of power to influence people to get them to move toward change that matters.

Power is the heart of leadershipPower is the heart of leadership. We really know your character as a leader when we observe what you are willing to do to get power, what you do with that power once you have it, and what you are willing to do to keep power. We really see your character as you exercise your power and especially when you believe your power is threatened. We learn is you are all about yourself, or if you purpose is really about “us”.

Great video Dr Bret. I love that you use the word “heart” in your analogy. I think you are spot on. Most leaders are accused of not having heart or most powerful people are questioned on their “heart”. Your statement turns that upside down. Great thought provoker….as always!
