Leader Lab: The Downside Of Too Much Personality

In my new post at The Leader Lab entitled “The Downside of Too Much Personality,” I discuss new research on the relationship between personality and job performance. I’ve always taught that personality is not a great predictor of job performance. Personality at work is important, but it’s effect on performance is usually indirect. One exception to that is the personality trait conscientiousness, which in numerous studies has been shown to have a direct effect on performance.

This new study confirms that conscientiousness is a good thing, but only up to a point. Too much of a good thing can actually be a weakness.
