Leader Lab: Empowering Leadership Leads To Employee Creativity

September 12, 2010 by Bret L. Simmons · Filed under: Leadership

Four Ways Empowering Leadership Enables Empowered Employees,” is the title of my new post at The Leader Lab. In this article, I share the results of an excellent recent study that shows empowering leadership leads to employee creativity.

Not all employees want to be empowered, which is where empowering leadership comes in. Empowering leadership helps employees find meaning in their work, involves employees in decision making, expresses confidence that employees can perform at high levels, and frees employees from bureaucratic constraints. This enables a sense of empowerment in employees, and empowered employees are more intrinsically motivated and engage more in the creative process.

Creative employees solve problems when they encounter them, and that makes your job better and easier. Empowered employees are creative employees, so practice empowering leadership to set this virtuous chain in motion.
