From Bret's review: "In this book, Nayar tells the story of how he transformed an already successful company, HCLT, into one of the fastest growing IT service partners in the world. The personal story Nayar shares is compelling, insightful, and at times funny and brutally honest. Have your highlighter handy when you read this because it is packed full of wisdom and quotable passages."
From Bret's review: "Despite its flaws, it is a good book. It will make the list of optional readings for my MBA class this fall because I think it will have an impact on the students that read it. The book is very well written with excellent organization and a very conversational style. The best thing about the book is the numerous excellent examples Liz gives to support her points, coming from her years of experience as a top executive and consultant."
I am speaking today at the 2010 Leadership Douglas County Economic Development and Media Day. They have asked me to speak about social media and the upcoming SM@RT 2010 Conference that I am co-organizing.
I think small businesses, especially those in rural communities, needs to be embracing social media right now. More than any other time in our history, these social media platforms give businesses and communities the ability to reach out to people all over the state, country, and world to help them make the case about the value of the products and services they offer.
Embracing social media is not just a marketing issue – it is a strategic leadership issue. Leaders that don’t personally engage in social media will never fully understand what people are doing in social media and why they are doing it; consequently, they will never understand how to fully leverage the value of these tools and the radical change in behavior they are facilitating.
Stay on the sideline during these times of tremendous change and the best you will ever be able to do is copy your competitors. The choice is yours, do you want to be a leader or a lagger? Consider this choice very carefully, because the wrong choice could further expose you and your business to competitive peril.
