My latest post at The Student Branding Blog is entitled “Multiplication Branding.” In this post I encourage folks to apply the logic from the book “Multipliers: How The Best Leaders Make Everyone Smarter,” as they build their personal brand.
Someone with a diminishing attitude practices personal branding by trying to show how smart and valuable they think they are. In contrast, someone with a multiplier attitude builds a personal brand that adds value by helping others learn how to solve problems that matter to them. The multiplier focuses on building communities (e.g. by blogging) of shared interest where people feel welcome to contribute their own thoughts and suggestions. By engaging others, multipliers increase what they and others know.
Anyone can chose to learn to be a multiplier. This approach is one of the reasons why I am such a strong supporter of personal branding.
