Personal Branding: Record Before You Write

November 21, 2009 by Bret L. Simmons · Filed under: Personal Branding, Video

My shortest video so far!

My tip for using video is to make your video FIRST and then write your text around your video. I often record 3-5 video messages at a time. When I get ready to post a video, I watch it and then use what I said in the video to help me write the text for my blog post. My text can summarize the main points I discuss, and also highlight some points I forgot to discuss in my video. I find this makes crafting a blog post MUCH easier.

So if writing does not come natural to you, record something you have to say first! If you think about it, most of us spend our day talking to others, not exchanging text. Talking comes much more natural to us than writing. So record your video like you were talking to a friend over coffee (or beer), then write the text of your blog post based upon what you talked about.

Hope that helps!
